Corn Snake (Normal)

Scientific Name: Pantherophis guttatus
Common Name: Corn Snake

Species Overview

Size: Adults typically reach 3–5 feet (0.9–1.5 m) in length, with a slender yet muscular body and smooth, glossy scales.

Appearance: The Normal Corn Snake represents the wild-type coloration and pattern that define the species. This Corn Snake displays a rich palette of red or orange saddles bordered in black, arranged along a warm orange, brown, or gray background. The belly features a distinct black-and-white checkered pattern, while the head typically bears a dark spear-shaped marking. Individual variation occurs across regional lineages, with some showing more contrast or deeper tones than others. The Normal Corn Snake’s natural appearance has long been admired for its balance of vibrancy and pattern clarity, serving as the foundation for countless selectively bred morphs within the species.

Distribution: Native to the southeastern United States, ranging from New Jersey to Florida and west into Texas.

Habitat: Found in pine forests, grasslands, rocky outcroppings, and agricultural areas. Corn Snakes thrive near human settlements, often inhabiting barns and abandoned structures where rodent prey is abundant. In captivity, they do best in naturalistic terrariums that mimic this varied environment.

Behaviour: Calm, intelligent, and alert. Corn Snakes are crepuscular, most active around dawn and dusk. The Normal Corn Snake exhibits the same dependable temperament and consistent feeding habits that have made the species one of the most popular reptiles in the pet trade.

Captive Care

Enclosure: A naturalistic 40-gallon terrarium (36” × 18” × 18”) or larger works well for adults. A soil-based or bioactive substrate layered with leaf litter supports burrowing and exploration. Provide multiple hides, cork flats, climbing branches, and plant cover for enrichment and security.

Temperature & Humidity: Maintain a daytime temperature gradient of 75–82°F (24–28°C) with a basking area of 86–88°F (30–31°C). Allow nighttime drops to 70°F (21°C). Keep humidity between 40–60%, offering a humid hide during shedding.

Diet: Offer frozen-thawed rodents every 7–10 days for juveniles and every 10–14 days for adults. Prey should be approximately 1.25× the width of the snake’s mid-body.

Behaviour in Captivity: Calm, confident, and easy to manage. Corn Snakes thrive in consistent, naturalistic setups and tolerate handling well. The Normal Corn Snake’s resilience, temperament, and timeless beauty make it an excellent choice for both beginners and experienced keepers.

Special Considerations: Although often overlooked in favor of designer morphs, the Normal Corn Snake remains an essential part of breeding programs and continues to display the purest representation of the species’ natural genetics.

Genetics Note

Normal (Wild-Type)

Displays the natural coloration and pattern typical of wild Corn Snakes. This is the baseline genetic form from which all other morphs are derived.

Genetic Combination Summary

The Normal Corn Snake expresses the standard wild-type coloration with no visible morph traits.

  • Normal = Natural red, orange, and black coloration and checkered belly pattern

This gene set forms the cornerstone of all Corn Snake morph development. The Normal Corn Snake embodies the essence of Pantherophis guttatus—a hardy, beautiful species that showcases nature’s original design while anchoring the genetics of every color and pattern variation seen today.

Super Cute Sponges for kids!
Color: Frog&strawberry, Color: Frog&strawberry
This is a pack of super cute kids bath sponges. These are sponges attached to loofahs that have a loop on them and can be hung to dry. These are shaped, One looked like a frog and the other like a strawberry making this pack accommodate both boy and girls. These sponges work very well and feel like they're made of a decent quality. The sponge area is very soft and the loofahs feel well made. These are a perfect size for the kiddos. These do a good job at lathering up the suds for the little ones. These also feel like they have a good durability and don't feel like they're gonna fall apart anytime soon. These are super cute and would make a great gift as well. The value on this is not very expensive. These are affordable especially for gifting. giving this an expected value in my opinion and at the time of this review. Overall, these sponges are super cute and would make a fantastic gifts for little ones. I would have no issues recommending these.

Very functional, and lots of fun for little kids. Gentle enough for their skin, too.
Color: Frog&strawberry
These are so awesome. Two of them come in a box. There's a frog one and a strawberry one. They are inside individual zip lock bags inside the box. There's a scrubbie/loofa (not a natural one, just the plastic webbing type) on one side, and cloth-covered plushie/sponge on the other side that is the strawberry/frog. My granddaughter loves them. She can use them to clean and scrub herself, just like a big girl, but with a fun sponge/scrubby that she likes, so she always knows that there's a special one that is just hers. They absorb plenty of water and soap, and are good for cleaning their whole body. They are just the right size to fit in an adult hand, so a little big for solo use by a little hand, but there are plenty of bits to grab onto on either side, so it's not hard for a little kid to hang onto them. The loofah/scrubby side is well made, although it will become big and loose as those things always do if you pull on them too much. The sponge/toy side is very soft, and definitely gentle enough for a small child's skin. My only dislike is the small loop for hanging it on a hook in the shower. The little loop is just tiny and hard to separate, so it's difficult to get it onto a hook so it can hang and dry out in between uses. It would have been very easy to make the loop longer and more functional, so I'm not sure why they didn't. Other than that one, minor inconvenience, this is a great product.

Adorable scrubbie
Color: Turtle&bunny
Durable sponge made with quality material. Great value for price, soap lathers well and no signs of wear and tear after using for a month. Not too rough on the skin, plus you can’t beat the adorable turtle design

Super Cute! Stuffing Seems to Poke Out
Color: Frog&strawberry
These kids bath sponges are super cute! My daughter loves the strawberry one. It's soft, and well made, and doesn't irritate her skin. The size is just right for little hands, and they seem to be holding up well so far. One thing I noted is that some of the stuffing seemed to be poking out when I first opened it, but it came off easily and doesn't seem to be getting worse.

Great work on the recent history of strategic studies and strategy in practice.
Format: Kindle
While not perfect, certainly one of the best works on strategy I've read recently and possibly the best work on post-1945 strategic history I've read in a while. Two main flaws or issues of contention: Strachan's critique of civil-military relations is at times lucid, but at other times appears to come slightly off the rails. Second, the books origin as a (much altered and added too) collection of articles shows through in the many areas which it doubles back on itself covering ground previously well trodden, at times this is done to build on previously mentioned ideas, at other times it seems overly repetitive. On the whole it is an excellent assessment and critique of the recent history of Strategic Studies as a field, as a historian I find many of his disciplinary critiques of the history/IR balance quite convincing, but I suppose I'm biased.
